EDUCATIONAL AND INSTITUTIONAL BENEFITS

Digital Dharma goes beyond detailing the history of a cultural rescue. The film provides insight into the Tibetan Diaspora community and examines the reasons for the perseverance of the monastic life for Tibetans living beyond the borders of their original homeland. Viewers learn about the Tibetan community a generation after the trials and challenges faced by those who experienced exile following the 1959 invasion. Of particular importance is the question, faced by all geographically dispersed cultures, of how to engage a new generation that does not share firsthand, or even know of, the historical bonds that help define a culture.

With this feature film, we want viewers to quickly move from asking why to wanting to learn how: how the mission will be accomplished, how it will all turn out, and perhaps even how they – the viewers – might become agents for accomplishing such a purpose in their own lives.
