IDA sets films for DocuWeeks showcase

The International Documentary Assn. has announced 28 films to be screened at the 16th Annual DocuWeeks Theatrical Documentary Showcase.
Selections include 17 features and 11 shorts from 19 different countries. Pics will unspool Aug. 3-23 at Gotham's IFC Center and Aug. 10-30 at L.A.'s Laemmle NoHo 7.
Features include Eugene Martin's "The Anderson Monarchs," Doug Shultz's "Defiant Requiem," Dafna Yachin's "Digital Dharma: One Man's Mission to Save a Culture," Everardo Gonzalez's "Drought," Thomas Riedelsheimer's "Garden in the Sea," Patrick Shen's "La Source" and Macky Alston's "Love Free or Die."
Since its 1997 preem, the fest has qualified more than 205 pics, shorts and features for Oscar consideration with a total of 25 noms and seven wins.
Other feature docs set to screen are Nelson Cheng's "The Magic Life," Doug Blush's "Of Two Minds," Jonathan Kalafer's "Once in a Lullaby: The PS 22 Chorus Documentary," Danielle Gardner's "Out of the Clear Blue Sky," Jane Weiner's "Ricky on Leacock," Megan Smith-Harris' "Trial by Fire: Live Re-Forged," Nicole Karsin's "We Women Warriors," Kelly J. Richardson's "Without a Net" and Mai Iskander's "Words of Witness."
